It’s time to go to the zoo! You have been invited to tour the national zoo with some students from one of the local schools. Although you don’t really know anyone you decide to be brave and give it a go! When you arrive at the front gates, you walk into the zoo and you immediately see…

Aim for a blog post of 8 - 10 sentences in length. You can do it!
Activity 2
When you are at the zoo, you have the chance to learn about some animals that are specifically found in your country. They are called ‘indigenous’ animals. This means that they are originally from your country. Use Google to identify two indigenous animals from your country. On your blog, post a picture of the animals and tell us a bit about them. What are they called? Where do they live? What do they eat?
The kiwi is a nocturnal, flightless bird that lives on the forest floor. The kiwi are the only bird to have nostrils at the end of their bill, and forage for food by digging in the earth and smelling it out. The kiwi is the New Zealand national icon.
The tuatara is a lizard like reptile that can be found living on the wild on offshore New Zealand Islands. A relic from the dinosaur age, the tuatara are nocturnal, and live for a very long time. The south museum is Invercagill features a large exhibit and breeding programme.
BONUS ACTIVITY
The New Zealand government is trying to save the kakapo. They are looking for creative ideas. What do you think they could do? On your blog, tell us what you think should be done to save the kakapo. Please be as creative as you can!
I think that people should have camera's set up so you know what is going on. Then we should set traps for all the predators trying to kill them. Last of all we should move them to much safe and healthy place to live.

Activity 2
Let’s imagine that you have been asked to host a visitor from another country. They are going to come and stay with you for three days. During that time, you are expected to take them on a tour of New Zealand and show them some our most famous icons. Where would you take them? If it was me, I might take them to Mt Cook in the south island, to the Sky Tower in Auckland and to Chums Beach in the Coromandel. What about you? On your blog, tell us which three famous places in New Zealand you would go with your visitor.

Auckland Live
Yesterday two classes from Glen brae school went to a very cool trip to Auckland live. We took the bus all the way into the town hall. We first went to the auditorium to watch a circus act and we learnt how to do the head stand which was very cool. Next we went to see the clowns. They were very funny and taught us the 3 simple rules of being a clown. After that we went to place we met up at saw to different dances that were danced by 4 people. The 2 dances were the ghost dance and the sweater dance. The 4 dancers taught us the ghost dance which very easy to learn. We also played fun games with them. Lastly we sat down and waited for our bus to come. We left with a smile on our faces and enjoyed our trip.
Kiwi Can Term 4 Week 7
At Kiwi Can we talked about respecting environment which was our topic. Our theme was Respect and this weeks catchphrase was "Respect this place, Treat it like your own, At the end of the day, It's where we call home". We had no energiser because we spent most of that time speaking about the topic. For our activity we played one of the games that we made up the last time we had kiwi can. It was called Crick-by which was the game my group and I made up. It was very easy because it was the rules that they use for softball. It was very hot and fun. Lastly we got straight into the points. We got 5 for everything which means we had 25 points. We said our goodbye chant and left the classroom quietly.
Diwali
Diwali is the festival of lights. The meaning of Diwali is the rows of lighted lamps. Diwali or Deepavali is celebrated in Autumn every year in the northern hemisphere. Diwali is a holiday for Pakistan, India, Fiji, Malaysia, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago. Before the special day people renovate and decorate their homes and offices. They also dress up in new clothes or the best outfits. This is also celebrated in NZ as well. The main public festivals are in Auckland and Wellington. People exchange gifts or sweets on this day. Children explode firecrackers at night. People believe that on this day, Hindu Goddess Laxmi enters only those houses which are neat and tidy. People offer prayers for their own health, wealth and prosperity. They let the light on so that Goddess Laxmi may find no difficulty in finding her way in and smile upon them. In 2016 Diwali will be celebrated on Sunday the 30th of October. This story is about Rama rescuing his wife Sita from the Demon King Ravana with his brother Lakshmana and a monkey possessing special powers called Hanumana. On Lord Rama’s Return after 14 years in exile, Diwali was celebrated for the first time.
The 5 days of Diwali is….
Soft Ball
Kiwi Sport - Softball
Today we had our second session of softball with our coach. The whole lesson was about batting which is the funnest part about softball. We started off with a warm up and then played a game which was called Skater Ball. The coach taught a chant about batting the ball. We were split into two groups. Before the game we had some safety rules for batting.
The rulles were….
- Check your Surroundings
- Don't throw the bat
- Don't swing the bat
She also taught us a chant on batting which is…
- Door knocking knuckles
- Bat by your ears
- Eye on the ball
- Step on the bug
- Squish the bug
- Swot the fly.
That chant really helped me K to bat well. The game was really really fun but unfortunately the team that I was in lost 49 to 31. At the end Maselino said thank you and we went back to class.

Te Tuhi Trip
Today we went to the Te Tuhi art centre to learn about abstract art and different other types of art. The art centre was in Pakuranga. Abstract painting is lines, shapes and colours. We went to the studio to draw and paint. We just drew 4 technology onto the paper, drew 4 lines anywhere you wanted and painted for different colours. At the end some of the paintings was very beautiful and colourful. The last thing we did was look at some paintings around the gallery. The one that I most enjoyed looking at was Atarangi 2. There is two in NZ. One is in Wellington which is smaller and the one in Auckland. We said our goodbyes and thanks you's and left.
Science Intensive with Mrs Tofa
Today we went to Rm 7 to have science intensive. The topic was movement. There is three laws of motion that Isaac Newton created or made. We also researched some information about Isaac Newton.
First Law - Inertia
Inertia means force that remains unchanged unless it gets moved by someone
Second Law
The second law means the heavier the object is the more force you need to move it.
Information about Isaac:

The last thing we did was make a car that moves out of straws, wheels, tape and balloons. That was the most challenging thing I have ever did. Sadly we couldn't finish. We had so much fun in her class room and we hoped to go to there again.
My Season Poem
Summer, All I can think of it is the warmth
of the sun touching my delicate skin.
But if it starts pouring of course i’m staying
In. = Summer
As the sun ray grows hotter, my ice - cream
melts leaving a memorable but delicious stain on
my shirt. Playing on the field noticing there’s
nothing but dried up dirt.
Autumn, When the bright and colourful fall
leaves fall off the trees. Flowing elegantly
like a swarm of peaceful bunch of colourful
Bees. = Autumn
Burnt beautiful colours and they also come
in different shapes. As the leaves are gathered
on earth, they are bunched up like loose
grapes.
Winter, The days are much colder, and we
become cold too. The air is much more
freezing, and the wind creeps upon us
screaming "BOO" = Winter
Sweaters, Jumpers, blankets are all you
need to prepare yourself or family. Sitting
down in the living room telling winter jokes
that are really really funny.
Spring, Flowers Blooming, birds arrive, Spring
makes the world a better place. Soon we will
feel spring's warmth and the smell of the scent
from the flowers that puts a smile on your face
= Spring
Different flowers growing in different places
the world or where you live and Birds sing. No
more snow, the nature wakes up from winter
Finally oh Finally it's Spring
Mr. Dudley
Mr Dudley
Late Mr Dudley was a volunteer from St Andrew's rest home. He worked at our school for a few years as a helper for our breakfast club which operates every morning on school days. He worked on Thursdays helping prepare and serve breakfast to the children who came to school without breakfast.
His beautiful smile and his kind words always made our day and we will miss him a lot.
May the Lord Almighty rest his soul in peace.

Who would I Choose?
If I were part of para-cycling and I had to choose a partner to compete with me in the Paralympic who would I choose?
I would choose my sister Luisa because she is very fast and she is fit. I think that we could make a great team together and I trust her a lot. That is who I would like to choose as my partner.
Who I Inspire?
I'm sure that everyone knows Jesse Owens. Jesse Owens was a black American athlete who participated in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. He is considered to be one of the bravest and most inspirational Olympic athletes because he competed at a time when the leader of Germany (Adolf Hitler) did not want black men competing at the Olympic Games. I would like to tell you who my inspiration is and why?
My inspiration is my family. They have encouraged me to learn more and try different things. I am really thank full that I have this family and I love them so much. Especially my mum and dad. I love playing netball and and my mum teaches me different skills in netball. I really struggle in my maths and my dad helps me with that and he also trains me for netball. That is my inspiration.
Judging our New Zealand Olympic Team Uniforms
So I am here today to judge 2012, 2008 and 2004 team uniforms.
This is the 2012 team uniforms. This is my favourite because I think that it represents New Zealand 100%. I like the black and white colours in there uniform. (What I don't like) I didn't like the polka dots on the girls dresses. Other then that this was the best.
This is the 2004 team uniforms. This is my second best because I like the ferns on it. I do think that the uniform needed more colour because it just looked all black besides the white fern. That's why this is my second best.
This is the 2008 team uniforms. These uniforms are my least favourite because I didn't like the red colour on it. I did like the black and white fern. I think that it represents the Maori language.
