Maths - Figure It Out!

For maths today we were given a figure it out book. We had to solve page 1, page 2 and page 3. This gave us the chance to challenge our minds/brains and think harder. The problem I found difficult was on Page one problem 3. Here is the problem:

The total of all the numbers in the circles is 54
The numbers in the circles on each line add up to 18
What could the numbers in the circles be.

The hardest part was adding up the numbers in the end to see if it would add up to 54. It was hard but we got there in the end.

Fractions!

Learning In - tension: We are learning to find a fraction of a set or number

In my class, we learnt about fractions of a set. Our teacher thought that it was a good idea to use m and m's to help us a little bit when it comes to fractions. The photo below shows what 1/5 of 5 is. Which is 3. So there are 5 groups with 3 m and m's in it.

In this photo or fraction there are 15 m and m's altogether. There are only 4 green m and m's so the fraction of this number would be 4/15

In this photo we had to find out what 1/16 of 16 is. Which is 1, so that means each m and m would be by itself and alone

Maths

Today room 8 learnt all about decimals and fractions. Our Teacher Miss Stone bought a cake to our class and it was 18 centimetre long. She cut the cake into to tenths that were equal. If you take away one tenth from the cake then that makes it 9/10. A whole cake together is either 1,0 or 10/10. Here are the cake pieces or should we say the tenths of the cake.

Place Value

In our class we have been learning about Place Value. This is a problem that our class solved using place value.
