SLJ WK 4 Day 4 Activity 1, 2 & 3

Activity 1: Moana
In late 2016, the movie Moana was released by Disney. It’s a beautiful story about a young Polynesian girl from the fictional island of Motunui, who goes on a big adventure.

Watch the trailer for Moana and then write a summary of the movie on your blog. If you’ve seen the movie, you can include your favourite part! Tell us as much as you can about the movie. What is it about? Who are the main characters in the movie? What do they do in the movie? Where do they go?

Moana

Main Characters: Moana, Maui

What is it about? An adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together they sail across the open ocean to find the heart of Tefiti and restore it back.

My favourite part of the movie would definitely be when all of the songs were sung. It was definitely catchy and very energetic. Here is a Link to some of them!

Activity 2: Country Calendar

Did you know that the longest running television show in New Zealand history is a programme called ‘Country Calendar’? It started on 6 March 1966 and has been running ever since. The programme includes stories of everyday New Zealanders, many of whom are farmers.

Watch this short clip from Country Calendar. What do you think would be the most interesting and/or challenging things about being a farmer? Would you would like to be a farmer when you are older. Why/why not? Give us, at least, two reasons to support your answer.

Being a farmer would definitely be a hand full. I’d say it would be cool but I wouldn’t say it would be a job for me. As I watched the video I noticed how much work they had to do. As for me I am a very lazy person and wouldn’t be able to do as much work as farmers do. Farmers are very hardworking and I think it's a great job.

Challenging Things:
Planting crops, shaving sheep, gathering livestock, and harvesting crops.

Actvitiy 3: Singing a Different Tune

A number of New Zealand (NZ) singers and songwriters have recently burst onto the music scene, becoming popular both in NZ and overseas. One of these artists, Lorde, is gaining a lot of recognition for her unique style and songwriting ability. People all over the world seem to really like the lyrics (words) that she writes in her songs.

Think of your favourite song. Share the name of the song, the name of the person who wrote the song and the lyrics from the song on your blog. You must type the lyrics not cut and paste them in order to earn full points for the activity.

Artist: Sam Smith

Lyrics:

You must think I’m stupid
You must think I’m a fool
You must think I am new to this
But I am see this all before

I’m never gonna let you get close to me
Even though you mean the most to me
Cause every time I open up, it hurts
So I am never gonna let you get close to me
Even I mean the I mean the most to you

But every time to hurt me, the less that I cry
And every time you leave, the quicker these tears dry
And every time you walk out, the less I love you
Baby, we don’t stand a chance, it’s sad but its true

I’m way to good at goodbyes
(I’m way to good at goodbyes)
I’m way to good at goodbyes
(I’m way to good at goodbyes)

I know you’re thinking i’m heartless
I know you’re thinking i’m cold
I’m just protecting my innocence
I’m just protecting my soul

I’m never gonna let you get close to me
Even though you mean the most to me
Cause every time I open up, it hurts
So I am never gonna let you get close to me
Even I mean the I mean the most to you
In case you go and leave me in dirt

But every time to hurt me, the less that I cry
And every time you leave, the quicker these tears dry
And every time you walk out, the less I love you
Baby, we don’t stand a chance, it’s sad but its true

I’m way to good at goodbyes
(I’m way to good at goodbyes)
I’m way to good at goodbyes
(I’m way to good at goodbyes)
No way that you will see me cry
(No way that you will see me cry)
I’m way to good at goodbyes
(I’m way to good at goodbyes)

No,
No, no , no, no, no (i’m way to good at goodbyes)
No, no , no, no
No, no , no, (i’m way to good at goodbyes)
(No way that you will see me cry)
(i’m way to good at goodbyes)

But every time to hurt me, the less that I cry
And every time you leave, the quicker these tears dry
And every time you walk out, the less I love you
Baby, we don’t stand a chance, it’s sad but its true
I’m way too good at goodbyes

  2. Hey telesia,

I really love your little summary on Moana, it is very good to read and I really love your favourite part of the movie. The songs are very catchy.

Being a farmer is hard and it is not a job for me too. Its just because you have to wake up in the morning everyday and shave the wool of the sheep, get some milk from the cow and also plant the vegetables.

I also like you choice on your song. That song is very catchy, no wonder why you like it!!!

Good luck on your last day!!!!

I really like your summary on the movie Moana. On the movie Moana, My favorite scene is when Moana Punches Maui on the face. I totally agree on been a farmer and how hard it can be to be a farmer. It is hard for some people to wake up early, Feed the Animal and Groom the animal. #

And i also like your song that your put on. The like what loto said, no wonder people like that song. Its because its catchy.

Good Luck on your 5th day.

  6. Bula vinaka Telesia,

    Activity 2:
I appreciate your honesty about why you wouldn’t want to be a farmer, the job really does demand a lot! You’ve posted multiple challenging aspects of farming, I can tell you really thought about it carefully. Maybe next time you could include a list of pros and cons concerning farming, this might help others decide whether or not they’d want to become a farmer. What do you think the most difficult aspect of farming is?

    Bonus Activity:
Thank you for taking the time to type out the lyrics to your favourite song, just remember to include who wrote the song in your post! Did Sam Smith write this song? I like that you included a link to the song, good thinking. What is your favourite part of the song?

One of my favourite songs to listen to these days is ‘This is Me’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’ movie. Have you heard it before? Perhaps you could check it out if you have time, it’s very uplifting! Here is a link:
