SLJ WK 3 Day 2 Activity 1, 2 & 3

Activity 1: The Dawn of Television

In the 1960s there was a great deal of change in New Zealand. Technology was evolving and the television was introduced for the first time into New Zealand homes in the 1960s. Popular programmes included Town and Around and C’mon.  Television remains popular to this day.

What is your favourite television show at the moment? On your blog tell us about your favourite television show. What is it about? Who are the main characters? What channel is it on?

My current favourite tv programme/show is Regular Show. The main characters are the park workers which are
 Mordecai

 Rigby

 Benson

Pops

 Skips

 Muscle Man

Hi Five Ghost

Mordecai and Rigby are very lazy and hardly finished work that is given to them. They always seem to get into some kind of trouble and it's up to them to fix it. I really enjoy watching this because it is very entertaining and this show never fails to get a laugh out of me.

You can watch this tv show on tv 102 Cartoon Network.

Activity 2: Rock 'n' Roll

Famous bands also started travelling across the world and in 1964, New Zealand hosted, arguably the most popular band of the time, The Beatles.

People were very excited to see The Beatles, and the hype around the band was known as Beatle-Mania (similar to the modern-day Bieber-Fever)!

Read about their tour of New Zealand below, and then post three interesting facts about The Beatles Tour on your blog.

Fact No.1 : A girl badly hurt her leg trying to climb a wired fence and two others were were forced through the fence because of pushing from behind

Fact No.2 : Police were forced to use dogs to try and clear all areas for they were blocked. Girls managed to damage two police motorbikes and one of the The Beatles Cars

Fact No. 3 : As the band stepped off the plane, the fans welcomed them with a haka and pressed noses with them. (Hongi)

Activity 3: The Three Rs- Rugby, Racing and Running

In the 1960s, sport in New Zealand was dominated by the three R’s – rugby, racing and running. The national rugby team, the All Blacks, had a great decade, winning 36 of the 40 games that they played. Many kiwis also spent their week-ends at the local racetrack and, in 1960, Peter Snell won a gold medal in the 800m race at the Olympic Games in Rome, Italy. He followed this up with two more gold medals in the 800m and 1500m races at the 1964 Olympic Games.

Watch this documentary about Peter Snell and then create a one-page poster on Canva* about this famous kiwi runner. Be sure to include a picture  of Peter along with information about his interests and other sporting accomplishments.

*You will need to register on the Canva website in order to use it. To register, first you will need to choose your poster template from the homepage. This will bring up the sign-in page. Click on the ‘Register with Email’ button and enter your details.

In my poster I have added 1 of his accomplishments, sport interests and added one fact about him.

I like the way you have set up the poster and information about Peter Snell. I also Like the way you gave us all the characters and whats Regular show is all about. Your Could also Add more Information on Peter Snell. This kinda reminds me of me creating a infographic at school.

Question: If you were a runner, and you played other sports, What would it be?

    Kind Regards

    1. Hi SioSaia,

Thank You for your lovely comment. Well if I was a runner and I had the choice to play any sport I would like, then I would definitely play Rugby and Netball. Those are my favourite sports. Thank You for commenting.

  3. Hey Telesia!

You've done a fantastic job with all of these activities! I really enjoyed reading through it all. I've seen the Regular Show a few times and it got a few laughs out of me too. It can be a little bit silly, but I guess that what makes it funny! Who would be your favourite character?

Wow! It sounds like "Beatle-Mania" was a hectic time! As much as I enjoy the Beatles, I'm not sure it's worth being forced through a fence! Is there a band that you love so much you would be a part of something like this for?

I love your poster about Peter Snell! It's simple and effective with a cool layout. It's very interesting that he didn't like running until his teenage years... What sports do you play??

Keep up the fabulous work Telesia!!

    Nicky :)
