Fire Poster

My class (room 8) went to room 10 for Science Intensive. We were assigned to make a fire safety poster because his class topic was based on fire, fire safety and fire hazards. Here is my poster below.

Compare / Contrast Graph

Compare / Contrast Graph

In my class we have been learning about the Maori History. So my teacher (Miss Stone) told us to make a compare and contrast graph. We did it on the English Tudor Buildings and The Traditional Maori Buildings. My Graph is down below

Earthquake Tower Challenge

Earthquake  Tower Challenge

We had to design and construct a 2-story building using the following materials:
-30 Straws
-1 cardboard base (25 cm by 25 cm)
-30 Straws
-100 paper clips (one box)
-20 pins
-2 meter of strings

During construction, what strategies did you use to strengthen  the weaker areas? Why?
-We pinned more pins to the building to make it more stiff so that the sandbag will ly on the building without collapsing.

During construction, how did you test the strength and stability of your structure?
-We tested it by laying a sandbag on the building and it was 250g

What are the strongest parts of your building and Why?
-The base was the strongest part of the building because it help hold the tower in place!

What are the weakest parts of your building? Why?
-Walls and corners because it kept on bending and leaning to the side which caused it to collapse

Where did you use the string in your structure? Why?
-Mostly the corners because it helped make the corners more stable

Where did you use the pins for the structure? Why?
-We used the pins to pin down the tower to the base.We also used it to help the straw connect with the other straws that haven’t been done

If you had 5 straws, where would you put it? Why?
-If we had 5 more straws then we would put it on the weakest part of our building which is the corners or sides.

Molecules

Molecules

Science Intensive : Molecules made out of Marshmallows

In our class we made molecules/atoms out of Marshmallow. In the photo you can see 2 pink marshmallows on the top which are the Hydrogen atoms and the one white marshmallow is the Oxygen atom. The 2 pink marshmallows are bit smaller than the white because they have less protons than the white one. That is why it looks a bit like mickey mouse.

Science Experiment

Today in room 8 we have been learning about the three states of matter which is Solid, Liquid and Gas. Our teacher (Miss Stone) gave us a piping bag filled with melted chocolate and we got to pipe it into to any design we wanted. When we finished, 2 or 3 minutes later it started to dry up really fast. So first the chocolate was a liquid when is was melted and soon turned into a solid as it cooled down. Here is a photo below

Day #7 Keep New Zealand Beautiful

Dawn breaks on Day #7 – the final day of your Great Kiwi Road Trip. You wake up early, ready to make the long trek back to Auckland. Along the way, Curious Kiwi stops at two beautiful places, Taupo and Rotorua, for you to get out and walk around.
Activity 1: While in Taupo, you go for a walk around the lake and you notice pieces of rubbish floating in the water. You also notice that there is rubbish on the footpath. As you know, it is really important to put rubbish in the bin and keep New Zealand clean and beautiful for generations to come. C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\NZ Map - Schematic.png

With that in mind, it is time think about what you can do to keep New Zealand beautiful. Use your imagination and come up with three things that you could do to make your neighbourhood more beautiful. Post your list on your blog ☺
Here are some of my ideas…
  • Put some posters up
  • Pick up as much rubbish as I can once a week
Then  I would make an advertisement on SAVING OUR EARTH. After that I would make a website saying “Call this number *******, then come and help pick up as much rubbish as you can.” If that is a success then we will do more of that, maybe once a week in different cities or maybe even the whole entire WORLD. I will work my hardest to keep NZ or anywhere else as tidy as can be.

So that is my Idea :)
Activity 2: After you have finished up in Taupo, it is time to hop back in the car and head for Rotorua – a town where will have the chance for some much needed rest and relaxation. In fact, you will visit the Tarawera Bush Pool – a geothermal hot pool that is located in the middle of a forest. The warm water in the pool comes from underneath the ground. After a few hours in the pool you feel really relaxed.
On your blog, post a picture of yourself doing something relaxing. I find reading really relaxing. Here is a picture of me reading one of my favourite books!

After a long soak in the natural hot pools, it is time to get back home. Your family and friends can’t wait to see you and they can’t wait to hear all about your adventures. Take a moment to think about what you have seen and done over the past week.

As you can see, I am dead asleep. Yes you are correct. Over the past few holidays all I have been doing is sleeping. That is what I enjoy the most. It gives me the chance to dream and rest for the next busy day. Also you can sleep anytime you want. Whether you're at the movies, your family's house and even in the car. If I wasn’t sleeping I would be reading a book or watching TV. Again… sleeping is what I enjoy doing the most. :) 🇿🇿🇿🇿🇿🇿🇿🇿🇿🇿🇿🇿
Bonus Activity: On your blog, post a video or write a description about your week. What have you learned? What did you like about the trip? What didn’t you like? Was there anything that surprised you?
To earn full points for this activity, you must talk about what you learned, what you liked and what you about your great kiwi road trip.

Bonus Activity: 12 points

Well, New Zealand truly is a stunning country, isn’t it? I think that we are so lucky to call it home! Let’s make sure that we do everything we can to keep the country safe and clean for future generations…

During the journey I have learnt so many things about NZ that I have never known. I learnt about our native bird (Brown Kiwi or a Kiwi), predators, a cool movie that was very interesting and I learnt more about Matariki and the events that they do.

My favourite part of this journey is the travelling part. I learnt more about the cities here in NZ. Not only did I have fun I got to share this with family and friends and tell them what I have learnt. Taking part in this programme made me gain loads of knowledge and like I said before I have learnt so much. Thank You to Rachel (for setting the programme up) and those who have commented on my blog. Best wishes to you all. :)
